Scuba diving in lake Baikal – Russia

I'm counting down till my newest adventure and this time by train. I'm off with the Trans Mongolia express, travelling from Saint Petersburg to Beijing during a 3,5 week period. Despite the awesomeness of this trip, as a scuba diver I'm on dry land with no opportunities to dive. Or are there? I'll be visiting lake Baikal, the world largest sweet water lake. Which options does this offer and will it be enough to still my scuba diving cravings.

We will be staying in Irkutsk for one night, near lake Baikal. This is the largest fresh water lake in the world, containing almost 20% of the world unfrozen surface fresh water. You have to love Wikipedia. :) My first thoughts about this trip weren't about scuba diving, not until I took the the time to take a better look at lake Baikal. When searching Google it show's quite some interesting underwater photographs. However there aren't any reviews or blogs about the actual experiences of people who've been diving there.

I'm going to take a closer look at available diving centers in Irkutsk. If you have tips or you've been diving there yourself, I'd love to hear your story. I'll keep you all posted.
